• THE IDEA
A high-level configurator designed for the automotive industry, adaptable to various vehicles and brands. Featuring a comprehensive set of functionalities tailored to fit any product, with an intuitive UI and smart backend solutions for seamless use and navigation.
• WHAT I DID
My goal was to create a significantly more advanced configurator compared to my first project, the Handheld Game Console Configurator. A considerable amount of effort went into blueprint planning to avoid the pitfalls I encountered in my previous experience.
Extensive optimization was required to ensure a smooth user experience, leading to the implementation of Nvidia DLSS technology (including Super Resolution, DLAA, and Ray Reconstruction), Substrate materials and the integration of MegaLights from Unreal Engine 5.5.
The configurator includes the following features:
- Customization of exterior, interior, and wheel colors
- Selection of different rim models
- Multiple camera angles with free navigation
- Scene switching
- Interactive door opening
- Customizable mirror decorations
- Tinted window toggling
- Control over exterior, interior, and environmental lighting
UI design were made in Figma by Sara Miric-Smojver (UI/UX designer) and implemented in Unreal Engine by me.
• FURTHER IMPROVEMENT
Currently, the configurator’s functions are somewhat dependent on the Porsche model used in this project. I aim to refine the blueprint solutions to make the system less product-specific, allowing for easier model switching—though some code adjustments will always be necessary.
Further optimization is also a priority. At present, the application runs at 60-70 FPS at 1920x1080 resolution with Ray Tracing and DLSS enabled. My goal is to achieve at least 144 FPS at 2560x1440 resolution. Improving performance will likely involve refining Lumen, optimizing textures and meshes, and finding a way to reduce the impact of translucent materials, which currently have the most significant effect on FPS.
